When I needed to replace my 15 year old bike computer (The plastic housing finally disintegrated!), I came to Amazon. After reading all the reviews I settled on the VDO X1, which I bought along with a second mounting kit for my mountain bike. Installation was a breeze. I was suspicious of the quick-ties - my old computer had screws and threaded receptors to attach everything - but using two sets of pliers allowed me to securely tighten them and they have held tight so far. Also, the magnetic sensor which mounts on the spoke seems to have a much broader reception range then my old one did. I experimented by moving the magnet up and down the spoke and got results over a wide range, so even if something slips a little, the computer still functions. I put a thin wrap around the handlebar before attaching the mounting bracket for the computer and that, too, is holding well. Now as for daily use:
The computer twists into and out of the bracket easily, yet remains secure. This is nice, because you can easily take the computer with you when leaving the bike unattended at a trailhead - or even a store. Bumpy rides and off-road usage have yet to result in anything coming loose. The switch from bike 1 to bike 2 is easy and a single button click switches the computer to the bike 2 mode. Setting each bike up is simple: there are a multitude of tire size presets and also the ability to input a custom size in either inches or millimeters, separately for each bike. Using a standard tire size yields results that are +/- 0.01 miles/mile or a 1% tolerance. If that's not good enough, the custom input will allow even better accuracy.
Using the computer is easy and intuitive. 2 large buttons at the bottom scroll up or down through the menus, for which a title is always displayed for easy understanding. The button on the right functions like a mouse button to take one one level deeper into a menu tree or to select or confirm a selection. The button on the left is like the back or up a level button. The display is easy to read even to my aged eyes in the bright Arizona sunlight. In the upper right corner is your current speed to a tenth of a mph. Smaller in the upper left is the time (which I love being able to see at any time). Below these 2 constant read-outs are the variable lines that can show trip/distance, elapsed time, average speed, maximum speed, bike in use, odometer, etc. The title of whatever is selected is always displayed to eliminate confusion. Also, tucked underneath the tenth-of-a-mile readout are 2 arrows. The up-facing one means your current speed is higher than your average, the down means slower. So by adjusting your speed until both show you can tell what your average speed is even if the display is set to elapsed time or something else.

No surprizes here. Easy reliable set up and accurate information. Speed, Average speed, maximum speed, trip milage, maximum milage, riding time etc, a very relaible instrument. the only thing that would be an improvement would be a backlight for night riding.
